Conrad
AKA: greendrake - La Habra, California
I
was born and raised in Lancaster County Pa. As a kid I fished all the farm
ponds and streams around home for bass and perch, just like all the kids, with
bait.
When I was 12 yrs. old my uncle opened my eyes to fly fishing. He fished bass only with a fly rod and hair bugs. In the winter he taught me the art of tying hair bugs and I have been hooked ever since. What a trip that first year was for a 12 year old kid.
The years since that trip I taught myself how to tie Trout and Salt water flies.
I married a California girl when I got out of the Marines and stayed in California.
I'm retired after 47 years of truck driving with a break somewhere in there to manage a fly shop for 7 years. Had a great many fishing trips enjoyed during those years which included Christmas Island, Costa Rico, Argentina, Alaska, Canada, and quite a lot of places in the USA. I've always had my fly fishing gear in the truck just in case I needed it.
My favorite river is the Henry's Fork of the Snake River in Idaho. I have been going there for the past 34 years. Although I enjoy all kinds of fishing but I must say the most awesome fish I ever caught were Tarpon. They really get your blood pressure pumping.
I've been on this web site now for a long time and really enjoy talking on the chat room to different tiers and fishermen from all over the world.
Now all you fly fishermen and girls raise your glass to all the Wild Trout in all the rivers.

Tier: Skip Conrad
Hook: #
10 to 16.
Body: Peacock herl or dubbing of choice.
Overlay: Deer hair. Every one knows this
pattern. If I only had one fly to fish it would be a beetle. I like
the ones out of deer hair, rather than foam, because I catch more fish on them.
But I do try a foam now and then to make sure. Select

Thread:
6/0 olive. Tail:
Moose mane fibers (3). Body:
Olive dubbing (fine). Wing:
Moose mane. Hackle:
Grizzly dyed olive. Note: I tie in a length of .021
leader to hook and fix it to a second vice to make an extended body. Tie
in tails with thread at top of the extended body and dub it. I think this
fly lasts longer than the kind with pulled back deer hair. Select
