The Redfish Shrimp is a spin off of my Epoxy Shrimp. I needed a larger version of the Shrimp. I use buck tail instead of synthetic hair. Initially, I used epoxy to coat the shellback but this added a lot of weight to the fly. I switched to silicone. I now use a water based sealant (DYNAFLEX 230). I find this material much easier to use. It is water based, cleans up with water and is not as messy as either silicone or epoxy. You an make a Floating "Redfish Shrimp" by coating the shellback with the DYNAFLEX and omitting the bar bell eyes. If you want this pattern to sink under the surface of the wter but not to the bottom, add some lead weight to the bottom of the hook shank prior to tying on the body. Add more or less weight according to how deeplu you want the fy to ride under the surface. Two other spin offs of this pattern are my "Crayfish" and "Baby Lobster" pattterns. These are tied exactly as the "Redfish Shrimp". Just change the size and color(s). |
