Alan Goodwin  aka-Alan the Highlander

I'm a young 50 year old (in 1999), child of Woodstock I suppose, and consider myself lucky living in Scotland with a wealth of trout and salmon fishing close by.

I've fished for trout and salmon since a small lad, first with worms, in burns where a 8" Brown is a monster, using an old Greenheart rod, progressing through cane, hollow glass, to state of the art graphite. I'm a traditional wet fly angler and glad to see it is finding new converts in the U.S.A.

The patterns illustrated on this page are random sample of ones that have served me well. The 4 palmered patterns are flies for wild and windy places. The Sedge is particularly good for night fishing for big Browns, something I love to do in high summer. A short line, close to the margins, with a dry Sedge, is pure magic. I will fish to dawn sometimes, and may even catch the morning rise.

The Salmon Hairwing is one of my own design, as is the Sedge. They are typical of the Salmon flies in my box and are good for Steelhead too.

The picture on the right is one of Alan's Home Waters.  He has his own web site that reveal the mystical attraction of Scotland and some of the flies from that area.   It can be reached by clicking on the picture or Alan's web site at http://www.thehighlanderway.com.
